DOCUMENTING A MILESTONE FOR THE BRITISH HEN WELFARE TRUST
I recently documented an important milestone for the British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT): the rehoming of their one-millionth hen. For years, the charity has found new homes for hens retired from commercial egg production, giving them the chance to enjoy life beyond the farm.
The one-millionth hen found its new home at Highgrove, with King Charles III taking part in the rehoming. I was commissioned to photograph and film the occasion, documenting the people involved and an important moment in the charity's history.
The project also included producing a documentary film for the BHWT's 20th anniversary, celebrating the people and work behind the charity's achievements.
A short documentary film produced for the British Hen Welfare Trust’s 20th anniversary, featuring Ben Garrod and following the work of the charity and its volunteers, from rescuing hens on farms to finding them new homes.
Created for the BHWT’s social media channels, the film became the charity’s most successful post to date, reaching over 850,000 views. It also went on to win a Smiley Charity Film Award, helping bring wider attention to the charity’s work and the importance of hen rehoming.
